St Kitts Full Island Tour

A private drive around St Kitts with four stops: Romney Manor, Brimstone Hill, Black Rocks and Timothy Hill. Four to four and a half hours, every entry fee already paid, and back at the pier with time in hand. It is the one tour to take if you are only here once.

Your driver waits

Pickups follow the ship's actual arrival, not the schedule.

Rain does not cancel it

A covered vehicle, and a shower here passes in twenty minutes.

What do you see on the St Kitts island tour?

You leave town on the main road with the Caribbean on your left for the first hour, cross to the Atlantic side, and finish on the ridge above the South East Peninsula.

    Romney Manor

A seventeenth century estate house at Old Road, with a garden built around a saman tree reckoned at over 350 years old. Caribelle Batik works out of the house itself and you can watch the wax and dye process in the yard. Walking in costs US$3 on your own. It is in your price.

    Brimstone Hill

The stop people remember. A British fortress on a volcanic cone 800 feet above the sea, built by enslaved Africans over roughly a hundred years from 1690, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999. From the Citadel you can see Nevis, Sint Eustatius, Saba and St Barths on a clear day. Admission is US$15, and it is in your price.

    Black Rocks

On the Atlantic side near Sandy Point. The rock is lava from Mount Liamuiga that ran into the sea and cooled there. The water on that coast is rough and there is no swimming.

    Timothy Hill

The last stop, and the reason everyone's camera comes out. From the ridge you look down on the South East Peninsula with the Caribbean on one side and the Atlantic on the other, close enough together to fit in one photograph.

How long is the St Kitts island tour, and does it fit a cruise day?

Most ships are alongside from about 8am to 5pm or 6pm. A morning departure gets you back with room to spare, which is why nearly every excursion sold on this island runs three to five hours. If your ship is on a short call, say so on the form and we will shape the tour to fit rather than rush it.

  2. 9:15amRomney Manor and Caribelle Batik
  3. 10:30amBrimstone Hill, about an hour on the fortress
  4. 12:15pmBlack Rocks, then Timothy Hill for the view
  5. 1:00pmBack at the pier, two hours before all aboard

How much does the St Kitts island tour cost?

US$389 covers up to four people. Two pay the same as four, so the more of you, the less each pays. Children 3 to 12 count inside the four and anyone under 3 goes free. If we have another booking on your date we will offer to pair you and bring the price down, and the form asks whether you are willing to share.

What to bring

  • Closed shoes or trainers. Brimstone Hill is cobbled, uneven and steep in places, and sandals are the commonest regret of the day.
  • Cash in small notes. Caribelle Batik and the roadside stalls take cards, but the US$5 and US$10 purchases go faster in cash. US dollars are accepted everywhere.
  • Sun cover. The fortress is open rock with almost no shade, and you will be on it in the middle of the day.
  • A light layer. The rainforest side gets a passing shower most afternoons and it stops as quickly as it starts.

Is it right for you?

  • There is real walking at Brimstone Hill, on slopes, with steps and no handrail in several places. It does not suit anyone who needs to stay seated throughout.
  • If you use a wheelchair, book it anyway and tell us on the form. An accessible vehicle can be arranged with notice, and we will say plainly which stops you can reach and which you will see from the road.
  • Children are welcome. Under 3 go free, and a car seat is worth bringing if you want one.
  • Five or more changes the vehicle and the price, so say so when you book.

Questions people ask

What does a taxi cost for the same route?
The taxi fare for the Historical Basseterre to Timothy Hill tour, four to four and a half hours, is US$100 or EC$270 for one to four people, and US$25 or EC$68 a head for five or more. Four people arranging it themselves pay that US$100 for the car plus US$18 a head in entry fees, so US$172 against our US$389. What the fare does not buy is the admissions settled before you arrive, the water, or a guide who can tell you what you are looking at. If the saving matters more to you than the guide, do it that way.
Are the entry fees really included?
Yes, both. Brimstone Hill at US$15 and Romney Manor at US$3. If you hold a St Kitts and Nevis government ID the fortress charges you EC$10 instead, so tell us and we will take it off.
Can we stop for lunch?
Yes, and it is the one change most people make. Say so on the form and the driver builds in a stop. Expect US$15 to US$30 a head at a local spot on the route.
Is this the scenic railway?
No. The railway is a separate three hour trip on the old sugar train out of Needsmust, and we do not sell it. Buy that one through your cruise line.
How many people are in the vehicle?
This is a private tour and the vehicle carries your party only. If you would rather share to bring the cost down, say so and we will tell you whether anything is running on your date.
What if our ship is late, or skips St Kitts?
If the ship arrives late your driver waits, because we book pickups against the actual arrival rather than the schedule. If the call is cancelled or the ship skips St Kitts you pay nothing, and anything already paid comes back in full. No fee and no credit note.
Do we tip the driver?
Tips are appreciated and not required. If you want a figure, ten to fifteen percent is normal here.
