St Kitts Sunset Catamaran Cruise

Two hours along the South East Peninsula with the sun going down over the water. US$89 an adult and US$45 a child, with the bar open the whole time, a glass of wine on arrival and small plates with the drinks. It sails every Tuesday, year round, and some Sundays in the winter season.

Open bar throughout

Local rums are poured from the moment you leave the dock.

Cloud does not cancel it

The boat sails in overcast weather and you still get the two hours, the bar and the coastline.

Called off means refunded

If the captain cancels for sea state, anything already paid comes back in full.

What do you see and eat on the St Kitts sunset cruise?

You leave Port Zante Marina and sail down the strip of land that runs from Frigate Bay towards Nevis, with the Caribbean on one side and the Atlantic on the other.

    The coastline

The South East Peninsula runs from Frigate Bay towards Nevis. The light goes gold about an hour in.

    The food

The food is where sunset sails in St Kitts collect their worst reviews. Guests read the word appetisers, picture dinner, and get handed crisps and peanuts. On this one you get light appetisers and a complimentary glass of wine when you board, and we send the exact list with your confirmation. There is no buffet and no hot meal. Eat dinner afterwards and you will enjoy both.

    The bar

The bar is the real point of the two hours. Local rums are in the open bar, poured from the moment you leave the dock, because nobody is getting in the water on this trip. Children get soft drinks.

    The departure time

Departure is 16:30 or 17:00, set by what time the sun actually goes down that month. We give you the exact time when we confirm.

How long is the St Kitts sunset cruise, and does it fit a cruise day?

If you are on a ship, this one rarely works. Most calls in Basseterre are alongside from about 8am to 5pm or 6pm, and a 16:30 departure has you leaving the harbour while your ship is counting heads. Unless your call runs well into the evening, take the sail and snorkel trip in the daytime instead and watch the sunset from the deck of your own ship.

How much does the St Kitts sunset cruise cost?

What to bring

  • A light layer. Two hours of sea breeze after dark is cooler than the afternoon you have just had, and nobody packs for that on a Caribbean holiday.
  • Flat shoes you do not mind taking off. Boat decks and heels do not get along.
  • Your camera or your phone, charged. The half hour either side of sunset is the only reason some people book this.
  • Cash in small notes. For the crew.
  • Something in your stomach. Two hours of an open bar on an empty one is a short road to a bad evening.

Is it right for you?

  • Anyone expecting dinner should skip it. The food is small plates with the drinks and that is the whole of it.
  • There is no snorkelling and no swimming, so swimming ability does not come into it at all.
  • Children are welcome with an adult who stays responsible for them.
  • If you are prone to seasickness, take something before you board. Two hours is not long, but the peninsula coast can be choppy at that hour.

Questions people ask

Could we book this cheaper somewhere else?
Yes, by about ten dollars. One of the big online excursion sellers lists a St Kitts sunset catamaran at US$79 against our US$89. The honest reason to pay the difference is the calendar. This boat sails every Tuesday year round and some Sundays in the winter season, nothing else fills that slot, and supply is what you are buying. There is no taxi fare to compare a boat with.
Which days does it sail?
Every Tuesday, all year. Some Sundays as well in the winter season. That is the whole calendar, which is why we ask for your dates before we quote you anything.
Is the bar really unlimited?
The open bar runs for the two hours you are on board, with local rums in it, and the glass of wine on arrival is on top of that. Soft drinks for the children.
What time does it leave?
Either 16:30 or 17:00, depending on the month and the sunset. You get the exact time in your confirmation, so do not book a dinner table before you have it.
Can we bring a cake for a birthday?
Ask us on the form and we will put the question to the captain. We will not promise it before somebody has said yes.
Do we tip the crew?
Tips are appreciated and not required. Ten to fifteen percent is normal here.
